The General Secretary of the South African Federation of Trade Union (SAFTU) Zwelinzima Vavi has lauded the National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers (NUPSAW) as the fastest growing Union in the Federation and the country.<\/p>\n

Speaking at Gauteng\u2019s Provincial NUPSAW congress this past weekend, Vavi said while many unions are declining in membership, NUPSAW has continued to soar.<\/p>\n

The organisation has grown exponentially from 2016, doubling its membership figures.<\/p>\n

The General secretary has urged members to continue working hard in order to make meaningful contribution in the workers struggle.<\/p>\n

“If we we fail to organise and recruit, we will be counting our losses.” He said.<\/p>\n

One of the losses for the workers that Vavi was referring to, was the 1.5 percent public wage agreement, popularly known as the “sweetheart deal.”<\/p>\n

He says if Unions like NUPSAW had majority representation in the bargaining council, such devious deals, whose intent is to hurt workers, would not have been agreed to.<\/p>\n

NUPSAW has been championing the rights of the marginalised workers such Community Health Workers, Early Childhood development and the Extended Public Works Programme staff.<\/p>\n
