The trade union NUPSAW, who is opposing the restructuring of hospital management, now has to come to terms with the fact that Labour is selling out to \u201cwhat the masters are saying.\u201d<\/p>\n
In response to the Honourable Minister of Health Dr Aron Motsoaledi\u2019s announcement 0n 27 February, NUPSAW requested the Public Health and Social Development Sectoral Bargaining Council (PHSDSBC) for a special council meeting to discuss the envisaged mass dismissals of its members who hold positions of hospital CEO\u2019s. The Council replied that the request was not supported by the majority of trade union parties<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that the trade unions in this Council should at all times defend the job security of their members (health workers). As trade unions we should use all resources at our disposal to fight unfair dismissals, retrenchments, redeployment and other mechanisms used by employers that could affect job security,\u201d says Success Mataitsane, General Secretary of NUPSAW.<\/p>\n
\u201cNUPSAW is aware of the fact that some public health care facilities are facing serious structural defects that are non-conducive to a productive working environment and we will always be supportive of reviews that can better the conditions of our health workers. However, we cannot condone the Minister\u2019s unilateral decision that is tantamount to an unfair labour practice,\u201d Mataitsane concludes.<\/p>\n
