NUPSAW EXPRESSES SOLIDARITY WITH COMMUNITIES AND SANPARKS WORKERS AFFECTED BY FLOODS IN LIMPOPO AND MPUMALANGA
The National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers (NUPSAW) expresses its deep concern and unwavering solidarity with all communities and workers who have been severely affected by the recent heavy rains and flooding in Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
The relentless rainfall has caused widespread devastation, including extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, roads, and public facilities. Many families have been displaced, livelihoods disrupted, and essential services compromised. NUPSAW extends its heartfelt support to all those who have suffered loss and hardship during this difficult period.
In particular, NUPSAW stands firmly with our members employed at South African National Parks (SANParks), many of whom have been directly or indirectly impacted by the floods. We recognize the challenging conditions under which our members continue to work and commend their dedication in safeguarding our natural heritage, even under extreme circumstances.
For public awareness, NUPSAW notes that some park gates in the affected areas are currently inaccessible due to flooding and damage to infrastructure. We urge members of the public to exercise caution, comply with official advisories, and refrain from attempting to access closed or unsafe areas.
NUPSAW calls on SANParks management, disaster management authorities, and all relevant government departments to act with urgency in providing relief, support, and adequate resources to affected workers and communities. No worker and no community should be left behind in times of crisis.
Furthermore, we salute those that are hands-on in ensuring the safety of those affected by this devastating disaster. We need to do everything humanely possible to support and assist wherever we can; after all, disaster management is everybody’s business.
