The Director of X-Ray Radiology at Robs Ferreira Hospital, Mr Morondo assaulted the union representative Sixpence Ntuli, of the National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers. The incident took place yesterday while the NUPSAW representatives were conducting their recruitment drive at Robs Ferreira Hospital in Nelspruit.

Three union representatives arrived at the hospital for their 10H00-am appointment, during their presentation Mr Morondo, whose office is situated one floor above where the representative was stationed, through his window uttered derogatory comments directed at the group. After concluding the presentation the representatives went into the Director’s office to speak to him about his unacceptable behaviour and were kicked-out by him. On their way out the representatives noticed that the Director was following them with a hammer on his hand, he then slapped Sixpence Ntuli and tried to hit him with the hammer but was held back by the other two representatives. The assault was reported with the Hospitals Medical Manager, Mr Goosen, but the matter could not be resolved amicably. The representatives proceeded to the Nelspruit police station to lay charges of assault. The docket was opened and the two witness statements were also taken. The police went to fetch the director who was then arrested.
