The Trade Union NUPSAW rejects any initiative aimed at destroying jobs in the Public Service with the contempt it deserves, irrespective of COSATU and FEDUSA support for the initiative – especially at this stage where everybody complains about the high unemployment rate and the President talks about creating jobs to the gallery

Yesterday a presentation was made during the negotiations in the PSCBC facilitation process and the President was quoted as having said the following during the State of the Nation Address:

◦ “Growth, development and transformation depend on a strong and capable state. It is critical that the structure and size of the state are optimally suited to meet the needs of the people and ensure the most efficient allocation of public resources. We will, therefore, initiate a process to review the configuration, number and size of national government departments.”

◦ Both Cosatu and FEDUSA also supported this approach.

Says Success Mataitsane, General Secretary of NUPSAW “This sell-out by the two Labour Federations, marks a dark day in the history of the SA Labour Movement.

With the new federation SAFTU, who has grown within the first year of its existence to an 800 000 member-strong federation, it will now be the only alternative for workers!” says Success Mataitsane, General Secretary of NUPSAW
