The National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers recently held its 2nd National General Council (NGC). This important gathering brought together the National Executive Council and Provincial Executive Councils from all nine provinces in Pretoria. Together, they took stock regarding the implementation of the resolutions taken by the 2022 National Congress, and engaged in constructive discussions, and reflections on the socio-economic factors impacting workers and the broader public to find solutions and foster positive change.

This auspicious gathering also received a comprehensive report from the National Executive Council (NEC) on the political overview of the union as well as the state of the organisation over the five years. Amongst the issues discussed were Anti-worker Labour law reforms, International Developments, Organising & Collective Bargaining Strategy, Political and Ideological capacity building, a broad outline of trade union education, engaging with Socio Economic issues and Building a strong SAFTU. The report was presented by the union’s General Secretary Solly Malema. Delegates were afforded an opportunity to assess, scrutinize and evaluate the union’s performance and growth under the current union’s leadership. The NGC further received audited financial statements from the National Treasurer and provinces’ recommendations on the amendment of union’s policy and constitution for good governance.

The two-days NGC culminated with a Presidential Award Ceremony Gala Dinner to recognise exceptional employees and provinces.
