NUPSAW to embark on a protected nationwide strike action in all depots of Transpharm Pty Ltd
National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers (NUPSAW), the union organising majority workers at Transpharm Pty Ltd, cordially invites all members of the media to be part and cover the strike action by NUPSAW members to begin in the early hours (06:45) of 03 November 2025, at Centurion depot.
The workers will protest against unbearable working conditions after relocation of their operational services recently from Tshwane to Centurion and Isando and in demand for a fair, just and economical reasonable transport allowance or alternatively, that employer should provide transport for all workers.
The employer Transpharm, who has many depots in South Africa some situated in Western Cape, KZN, Gauteng Province (Hermanstad, Isando and Centurion) to mention but a few, issued a circular notifying all employees of its intention to relocate operations from Tshwane depot (Hermanstad) to Centurion depot effective from 01 July 2025.
This move by employer has eventually affected more than 610 employees who are currently paying additional transportation costs. NUPSAW, representing affected employees has engaged Transpharm in good faith, requesting and advocating for reasonable support from employer in the form of transport allowance or employer to provide transport for employees.
Unfortunately, the employer adopted delaying tactics, frequently postponing meetings, and ultimately offered a meagre of R500.00 transport allowance, which was rejected by all employees. The Union NUPSAW proposed and suggested that Transpharm should provide bus transport for workers, a suggestion which was not accepted by employer.
In an attempt to break the impasse, the Union then proposed a R3,500.00 monthly transport allowance, which the employer again refused, citing financial constraints. The union demand was a result of due diligence done in member’s general meeting where the lowest paid employee would end up paying an additional extra costs on the transport in the region of R3,500.00 on monthly basis from Tshwane to the new Centurion depot.
