Members of the Trade Union NUPSAW are in the midst of a full-blown strike at the Head Office of the National Lotteries Commission (previously known as the Lottery Board) in Pretoria.

The strike is the result of a salary dispute between Labour, namely NUPSAW and NEHAWU and the Employer.

The initial demand for Labour for a salary increase was 12.5% while the initial offer of the Employer was 6%.

Labour’s final demand is 8.5% and the Employer’s final offer is 7.5%.

The two parties couldn’t reach an agreement and were referred to the CCMA as a dispute of mutual interest.

The parties could not resolve the issue on Monday, 13 August 2018, which led to the Commissioner issuing a certificate of non-resolution that gives unions the right to strike.

On 15 August the unions gave the Employer notice to strike which had set off today. The strike will continue until the issue is resolved.
