The National Union of Public Service and Allied workers (NUPSAW) is calling on all workers in Limpopo to unite and fight against the exploitation of Community Health Workers (CHW’s) and Early Childhood Development (ECD) practitioners by the Government, on the 11th of October 2018.
NUPSAW want Government to integrate ECD into basic Education and stop the exploitation of ECD Practitioners by the Department of Social Development. The integration of ECD into Basic Education would eliminate the possibilities of Provinces not being able to provide for all ECD centres and the mismanagement of the grant.
According to reports the subsidy in the Early Childhood Development was targeted for qualifying children from birth to five years, or until they entered Grade R, and the value of the subsidy paid was at a rate of R15 per child for a maximum period of 264 days.
“For NUPSAW this subsidy is far from enough, this smack of exploitation,” says Solly Malema, National Organiser of NUPSAW. We will not let this go, we will fight and put an end to the exploitation in ECD,” Malema concluded.
A total shutdown strike is looming in ECD and parents might not be able to take their children to creche should the Department of Social Development fail to Provide for the ECD.
NUPSAW also states that the National Department of Health must also comply and execute Public Health and Social Development Sectoral Bargaining Council (PHSDSBC’s) Resolution 1 of 2018 by starting with the back payments of the standardised remuneration for CHW’s.
