NUPSAW strongly condemns the brutal and senseless murder of Prosecutors

National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers (NUPSAW) condemns the brutal and senseless murder of prosecutors that seem to be prevalent in our country. This follows the recent murder of Ms Tracy Brown. Ms Brown who was a prosecutor at New Brighton court, Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, was gunned down outside her home and succumbed to her injuries later in hospital.

The murder of Ms Brown is the second one to take place in the province in just less than six months. In April, Mr Elona Sombulula was also brutally murdered in Mendu village near Ngcobo. Although our Police Service mentioned that the motive of the murders is not known, it is clear that these are an attempt by criminals to intimidate prosecutors to fear executing their duties effectively and efficiently and thus leading to a failing justice system.

NUPSAW strongly believes that no worker should be subjected to working conditions engulfed by threats and fear of loss of live and therefore calls on the Law enforcements to accelerate their fight against crime and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book and justice prevails. This rot that we notice to be engulfing the public service at such an alarming rate should be curbed as a matter of urgency. It is uncalled for that workers should feel unsafe even in their own yards.

Furthermore, NUPSAW calls on everyone in the working community to speak out on such atrocities and expose this inhumane behaviour and lack of respect for human lives. We cannot sit back and allow the workers who dedicate their lives to serve the public, to continue to live in fear. The lives of the workers matter.
